Job Summary:

The VP of Operations leads, directs, and oversees all manufacturing operations for Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI) safely, ensuring product is managed efficiently at the right quality to attain high service levels. The VP of Operations is a member of the AMI Leadership Team and reports directly to the President of AMI. The VP of Operations will create, integrate, and fulfill organizational and operational standards to support business and future growth strategies through leadership and organizational development. The position is tasked with ensuring operational processes are efficient, effective, and aligned with the overall strategic goals.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborate with other leaders to develop and implement strategic plans for the business.
  • Key contributor on the senior leadership team for strategic development and execution, talent development and succession planning.
  • Lead the Operations and Engineering functions for the business. Directly supervise a team of directors who oversee others.
  • Establish key performance indicators and goals to measure success and efficiency in operations.
  • Lean Champion for the business and manages with a focus on continuous improvement utilizing lean principals.
  • Identify areas for operational improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency, drive profitability, and increase productivity.
  • Set annual budgets and conduct periodic reviews to ensure adherence to plans and delivery of committed financial goals.
  • Communicate clear expectations and hold directors accountable for expectations including overall plant operations, employee development, safety, environmental, and quality.
  • Reinforce a culture focused on teamwork, effective communication and problem solving.
  • Provide day to day leadership, support, solutions, and redirection for directors.
  • Ensure safety, environmental and regulatory compliance for each operations location.
  • Facilitate communication and information sharing between operations and other functional business units.
  • Collaborate with corporate research function to develop product innovation and enhancement.
  • Process driven and seeks to understand problem sources to put in permanent corrective actions and procedures to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Coach directors on creative solutions and the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques to resolve operational issues such as product formulation problems, employee conflicts, inventory management, and process breakdowns.
  • Responsible for making decisions regarding hiring, capital expenditures, employee relations and development, compensation, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Work in a safe and healthy manner, adhering to all safety rules and practices.
  • Represent the company's core values and culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Fifteen years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of ten years' experience in a senior leadership role
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an industry-relevant field required, Master's degree preferred
  • 10 + years' experience in leading an operations team
  • 5+ years of P/L management experience
  • Experience within a lean operations environment with demonstrated results and oriented leadership leading to continuous cost, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction improvement
  • Demonstrated success with Six-Sigma or other problem-solving methodologies in an operations environment
  • Ability to lead change and execute on strategic decisions
  • Project management and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across other functional areas
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate (verbal/writing) effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to empower, motivate and inspire staff
  • Travel as required 25-50%, based on business needs
