Venture Capitalist Associate

HG Ventures was recently launched as the corporate venture investing arm within the Heritage Group, expanding upon and leveraging our 85-year track record of building diverse and successful companies in sustainability, environmental services, energy, transportation infrastructure, and specialty chemicals.  We seek to invest in companies from seed to the growth-equity stage with thematic connections to THG's operating businesses, legacy industries that are ripe for disruption.  The structure and organization of our group are uniquely designed to operate as a venture fund, offering a flexible and efficient investment process, the ability to lead rounds and take board seats.  Our diligence process and ability to enable our portfolio companies' growth is maximized by the deep technical and market expertise of the Heritage Group operating companies.

The Heritage Group has historically been a stealthy private organization that has grown immensely due to a positive culture that is entrepreneurial, informal, team-focused and innovative. With over $5 billion in annual revenues, we are financially well positioned to continue our tradition of ambitious expansion and profitable growth; the HG Ventures group aims to catalyze the next generation of company growth through new models. Our investment allocations are similar to a $400 million venture fund, as we expect to invest approximately $50 million per year into new and existing portfolio companies from our balance sheet.  We are based in Indianapolis at the Heritage Center, which also houses our corporate headquarters, our R&D lab, and our internal collaboration resources.

Our team functions like a venture partnership, with a diverse set of individuals having decades of experience in both venture investing and private company executive leadership.  We are looking to add two Associates to our team over the next year. Initial responsibilities will include:

• Sourcing and screening investment opportunities
• Interacting directly with entrepreneurs and executive teams
• Creating and executing diligence plans
• Structuring and negotiating transactions
• Supporting portfolio companies and observing board meetings
• Developing thematic investment objectives

Associates will be mentored by experienced venture professionals and will have an opportunity to develop into partners.  An MBA is required.  We are also looking to add diversity to our team.
