Position:  Venture Associate

HG Ventures is the corporate venture arm within the Heritage Group, one of the largest and most diversified companies in the midwest.  We invest in both early stage and growth stage companies developing advanced materials and systems for environmental services, transportation infrastructure, construction, specialty chemicals and energy.  The structure and organization of our group is similar to a stand alone venture fund.  We lead deals, structure transactions and serve on boards.  At the same time, we leverage the deep technical and market expertise of the Heritage Group operating businesses and the Heritage Research Group.

Our investment allocations are similar to a $400 million venture fund, as we target investing approximately $50 million per year into new and existing portfolio companies.  We are flexible with initial investment amounts, including participation in relatively small, early stage financings.  Our geographic focus is the United States, but we are open to opportunities in other countries.

We apply strict confidentiality policies and procedures to protect private company information. All proprietary information is secured within a small, defined group of HG Ventures professionals and is not shared with others in The Heritage Group unless authorized by our entrepreneur partners.

We are based in Indianapolis at the Heritage Center, a state of the art innovation and research center which also houses our corporate headquarters, R&D lab and our internal collaboration resources.  Our team functions like a small venture firm.  We currently have two managing directors, two directors and one associate.  Our team has decades of experience in both venture investing and private company executive leadership.  We are looking to add one Associate to our team in the next year. Initial responsibilities will include:

• Sourcing and screening investment opportunities
• Evaluating entrepreneurs and executive teams
• Creating and executing diligence plans
• Structuring and negotiating transactions
• Supporting portfolio companies and observing board meetings
• Developing thematic investment objectives

Associates will be mentored by experienced venture professionals and will have a development path that includes opportunities to move into senior positions within HG Ventures, management roles within operating companies, and senior advisory roles at the holding company level.  An MBA is required.  Two to four years of venture investing experience is preferred.
