We have an opening for a Trucking Manager in our equipment department. This is a critical role that provides strategic direction for dump truck management and movement for the organization, including managing MS Transport, Omega Trucking and South Bend Transfer.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides strategic direction for the organization's dump truck fleet
    • Manages fleet size and health, under the guidance of the VP, Equipment
    • Develops best practices for utilization and movement
    • Establishes utilization KPI's and monitoring dashboard
    • Partners with local areas to ensure trucking needs are met
    • Develops annual budget; monitors financial performance and meets performance targets
    • Develops relationships with broker trucking companies; sources new broker haulers as needed
    • Develops relationships with the Teamsters; has excellent understanding of labor relations and Teamster contracts
  • Manages DOT Compliance
    • Ensures fleet follows applicable federal, state, and local regulation
    • Ensures compliance with federal clearinghouse requirements
    • Manages driver compliance
  • Develops high quality relationships
    • Uses inquiry to understand needs of internal stakeholders to meet or exceed service and operational expectations
    • Sources and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, including, but not limited to broker trucking agents, INDOT, owner/operators and subcontractors
    • Communicates regularly with others by phone, email, text, and in-person
  • Develops people
    • Directly supervises MST, SBT or Omega Dispatchers
    • Develops staff and ensures appropriate training is conducted
    • Cultivates a climate of high trust
    • Regularly travels throughout the state to area shop locations, job sites, or other locations
  • Cultivates a safe work environment
    • Responsible for safety of trucking groups
    • Exhibits safe physical work behaviors; ensures all drives and personnel do the same
    • Creates climate of safety by promoting emotional, psychological, physical, and mental well-being

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Management, Automotive Maintenance, related field, or commensurate work or military experience
  • 5 years' experience in a managerial or supervisory position (or equivalent progressive experience in an individual contributor role)
  • 5 years' experience working with haulers, broker trucks, and/or internal hauling fleet
