Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

Asphalt Materials is looking to add a Staff Accountant that will report to the Accounting Manager, and be apart of a team dedicated to the financial well-being of AMI's operations. This person must be a self-motivated, curious individual with the ability to multitask, and meet hard deadlines regularly.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Maintain accounting systems, records, and controls in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
• Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
• Assist in preparation of state and local tax returns
• Perform inventory payables management and monthly reconciliation
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Perform daily entry of key financial transactions in multiple databases
• Research and correct discrepancies across multiple databases
• Assist with various audit requests
• Improve systems, processes, and procedures and initiate corrective actions
• Embrace continuous improvement in accuracy and timeliness as it relates to job functions
• Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller

Requirements and Relevant Skills:

• 1-5 years of experience in an accounting role.
• BS degree in Accounting
• MBA, CMA, or CPA is valued but not required
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, especially MS Excel
• Experience in MS Dynamics (Great Plains) preferred
• Experience in intercompany transactions valued but not required
• Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Experience in public accounting is valued, but not required
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Highly organized, trustworthy, and a team player
