Research Engineer

Asphalt Materials, Inc. is looking for a Research Engineer who can help support existing and develop new products in our group, from hot-applied tack, void reducing asphalt membrane, rapid penetrating emulsions, and other upcoming products. You will be a valuable team member to support our technical, field, and marketing efforts and a resource for our agency customers who ultimately benefit from our technology. You will be a part of our Specialty Products team - together we promote, engage, and build relationships in our industry, educating them about technologies that we are truly passionate about. To be successful, you must discover new materials and tests that work in challenging construction conditions.

The core strength of our business is the research & development, formulation, and commercialization of the necessary components of the construction materials industry, with a keen focus on asphalt technologies. This position serves an important role in these efforts.

Skills:

• Understanding of laboratory testing of asphalt products, researching new materials, developing new tests, and understanding similarities and limitations of lab to field
• A basic understanding of chemistry application to asphalt products
• Solid understanding of field application and construction operations around asphalt products
• Field testing, support, and observations to validate lab findings and determine if objectives are being met
• Analytical, technical writing, and communication
• Become a subject matter expert on our existing products
• Understand development of specifications for agencies
• Develop relationships with contractors and agency personnel for their confidence in our products and trust in us to fulfill expectations
• Identify New Product Development Opportunities - both product line extensions and new product development
• Collaborate with Specialty Products and HRG teammates to share learnings and best practices around:
• Technical
• Field Support/Application
• Operations/Production
• Marketing

Requirements:

• College graduate (with a degree in science / technology) or proven, relevant experience.
• Minimum five years in asphalt or a materials-related industry
