Project Engineer

Heritage Research Group is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join their Indianapolis based team. This role will play a key part in supporting and leading engineering projects in conjunction with R&D activity, as well as supporting projects at sister companies and report to the Senior Project Engineer.

Job Description The Project Engineer will work with Heritage Group staff to meet with internal and external customers in a technical sales engineer capacity.  Design, procure, install & commission equipment for small projects <$5MM. Develop the conceptual design and initial project scope (FEL 1) to secure funding for projects >$5MM and continue to be the customer's primary technical contact throughout the project delivery.  Develop facility capital cost, raw material, utility, and operating costs, and product sales pricing to prepare an economic analysis of opportunity. Be an engineering expert to support other Heritage Group company projects. Provide technical input on safety issues, developing, tracking, and maintaining data used to improve facility operations, and financial performance, in addition to other duties as assigned.  Have a creative desire to work on projects/problems that have not been solved before.  Provide technical due diligence for mergers and acquisitions from startups to mature companies to join the Heritage portfolio.

This position is based in Indianapolis, IN. Qualified candidates must currently reside in the Indianapolis area or be willing to relocate.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Chemical Engineering degree.
  • At least 3 years process and project engineering experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD).
  • Quick learning ability to evaluate new processes.
  • Ability to oversee external design firms and oversee construction management firms to meet budget and schedule.
  • Process design experience including mass and energy balances, PFDs, and P&ID development.
  • Ability to work effectively with equipment vendors on RFQs, POs, deliveries, installation, and startups.
  • Cost estimating ability for never-been-done-before processes.
  • Ability to look at a process (either in engineering drawings or at the actual physical equipment) and develop an understanding.
  • Ability to study a process and develop key metrics to measure, then develop improvement plans, track progress.
  • Engineering due diligence in support of new investment and technology opportunities.
  • Travel as needed: Possible day trips up to week-long travel.

  • Previous plant support/production engineering experience in a refinery, chemical plant, etc.
  • Project management - from capital request to collecting bids, to awarding work, to managing contractors, to start up and training.
