Pavement Materials Intern
Heritage Research Group (HRG) is seeking a qualified student pursuing a graduate degree or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Material Science to fill the position of Pavement Materials Intern for the Summer of 2023. The active learning position promotes development by working in a team of engineers, scientist, and technicians with an emphasis on hot mix asphalt characterization and performance testing.
Timeline: Application closes on Thursday, November 3rd or until filled Paid Summer Internship: May 15th - August 4th
- Intern pay is non-negotiable and is calculated based on current academic class standing $17/hour (Freshman) - $20/hour (Senior), etc.
Location: The Center + Heritage Research Group Lab 6320 Intech Blvd, Indianapolis, IN, 46278
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with growing team of engineers, scientists, and technicians in a dynamic laboratory setting
- Gain proficiency with asphalt mixtures, performance testing, and lab procedures
- Gain valuable hands-on experience with producing, analyzing, and evaluating asphalt mixtures
- Manage and present a project with a focus on the evaluation of asphalt mixtures using balance mix design concepts, under the supervision of the asphalt mix design team
Requirements:
- Ability to work safely in a lab setting while following HRG's safety requirements
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Quick learner with ability to work independently and within various teams
- Organized with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Timely, positive, and professional work habits
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Education/Experience Requirements:
- College Junior/Senior or actively pursuing a graduate degree in Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, or Material Science.
- Interest or experience in material testing, construction, asphalt and or research
