Logistics Manager

Job Summary:

The Logistics Manager a member of the Asphalt Materials Inc. team located in Indianapolis, IN and is part of the greater Heritage Group organization. This opportunity is new, innovative, and offer the opportunity to be creative as this role develops. Responsibilities involve guiding operations on strategy and protocols for the asphalt terminals located throughout the Midwest, managing the movement of materials, budgeting, freight and freight rates (truck, rail, and barge), and creating strategic and logistical goals for the company.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and manage relationships with logistics service providers and coordinate with vendors to create innovative delivery processes and solutions 
  • Negotiate rates and contract terms with trucking and rail vendors
  • Manage company-owned truck and trailer fleet
  • Ensure shipments are compliant with interstate traffic laws and regulations
  • Coordinate and manage shipments between internal plant operations and external transportation partners via home-grown database
  • Respond to and resolve shipping complaints
  • Track and report shipment results including quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team for inbound and outbound transportation projects that require active coordination with various service providers
  • Identify and analyze the financial impact of logistics changes, routing, and/or shipping modes
  • Provide evaluation, support, and oversight for logistical aspects of growth opportunities such as acquisitions and business expansions
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on rail/trucking operations, on-time performance, external and internal customer satisfaction, and performance/compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Evaluate contractors to determine performance fee payments for services rendered.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of train service delivery, operating plans, and public timetables.
  • Support plant/sales goals in achieving target inventory turn and other key metrics through the optimization of purchasing and delivery practices
  • Managing external transportation partners

 

 Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years of full-time experience in transit operations
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills Time management skills and multi-tasking ability
  • Effective communication skills
  • Travel: up to 25%
