Lab Tech - Emulsicoat

Job Summary:

The Lab Technician is responsible for utilizing proper methods of sampling and testing of asphalt, emulsion and other materials with the purpose of evaluating quality and process control and/or acceptance.  The lab technician will report to the Plant Manager and have dotted line reporting responsibility to the QA/QC Manager.  The Lab Technician is key in holding the standard of product quality and is the main communication channel between plant employees and the research lab.

Job Functions:

• Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure products meet or exceed requirements of the appropriate agency or customer
• Prepare and record accurate information and forward to appropriate plant and research lab contacts in a timely manner
• Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned
• Evaluate data for deviations or trends away from accepted standards
• Obtain State DOT or other required certifications in a timely manner
• Assist internal and external customers in any quality related matters
• Sample appropriate materials, test the materials, and keep record of such for the state and other regulatory agencies
• Conduct a monthly inventory on all products, chemicals, and other materials on site
• Communicate with plant leadership and HRG on any product quality issues, trends or observations that impact quality, operations and customers
• Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment

• Basic knowledge of lab testing methods preferred

 Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Willingness to work shift work, weekends, and overtime
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Must be willing to wear appropriate personal protective equipment where required
• Must be able to tolerate scents common to fuels and asphalts loading operations, as well as those of construction and maintenance related activities such as welding, painting, and tank cleaning
