We have an immediate opening for a Human Resources Generalist in our Lafayette area. The purpose of this role is to turn day to day HR transactions into pivot points for deep relationship building with our largest employee population, our skilled trades and craft workers. This is a fully onsite role.


Position Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist will provide an extravagant welcome to our craft workers through our new hire experience, be a culture champion for the Milestone Way, and provide a frictionless employment experience by ensuring that all the data and data transactions required is timely and accurate.

Essential Functions:

  • Drives Company Culture Integration
    • Conducts New Employee orientation sessions
    • Collects, enters and processes all relevant data to ensure employee is entered into HRIS systems accurately and paid accurately and timely
    • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Provides direct employee support
    • Handles employment-related inquiries from craft workers and facilitates problem solving; turns transactions into opportunities for relationship building
    • Attends and participates in employment functions related to crafts (job fairs, team building events)
    • Supports operations supervision through hiring process
  • Develops and hones functional HR knowledge
    • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
    • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintains accurate records
    • Develops and maintains confidential HR records
    • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute craft worker employee transactions, including, but not limited to processing Change of status forms, updating job classifications per union contracts, drug screening forms, BCRC forms, address changes, et al
  • Communicates with internal/external customers.
    • Answers inquiries via phone, email or in-person.
    • Develops effective relationships with employees, peers and managers.
    • Provides highest levels of service.
  • Promotes and maintains safe work environment.
    • Exhibits safe work behaviors
    • Wears all prescribed PPE
  • Travel Overnight travel is not expected on a regular basis but may be required occasionally; job site or satellite office visits may be required.


    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field; or equivalent work experience
    • 1-3 years' previous experience in a human resources generalist position, or equivalent work experience
    • SHRM or HRCI Certification preferred
    • Union experience preferred
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Outstanding communication skills: ability to extend an extravagant welcome and develop relationships
    • Basic understanding of HR body of knowledge, including employment law, talent acquisition, employee and labor relations, total rewards, EEO/AA
    • Ability to maintain confidences and exercise discretion
    • Ability to apply critical thinking and exercise judgment in decision making
    • Ability to build trusting relationships with stakeholders
    • Ability to work in a fast paced and constantly changing environment
