Human Resource Business Partner

Position: Human Resource Business Partner

The HR Business Partner will be a champion for various organizational and people initiatives at Walsh and Kelly.  The role will support organizational needs for day to day HR activity as well as strategic initiatives in the area of talent, development and employee relations.  The ideal candidate will be a seasoned people navigator who can influence business line leaders in the transformation and transition of the organization. In addition, this role will a member of a network of HR professionals within our HC&M businesses to drive consistency and collaboration among the group. 

Business Partnering  Work directly with managers, supervisors & superintendents to anticipate HR needs and ensure critical people processes are effectively and efficiently met. Demonstrate sufficient business knowledge to effectively contribute to critical HR and people decisions.

Employee Relations and Employee Engagement  Serve as a company advocate and catalyst to develop and maintain a highly engaged and productive workforce. Support managers in the delivery of coaching/disciplinary processes, execute investigations, when necessary and advise line management on employment policies and procedures to enable improvement in working practices and productivity and without adverse impact on regulatory / legal compliance, company reputation or employee engagement. 

HR Administration Manage needed HR compliance and regulatory requirements such as EEO reporting, affirmative action, etc. in addition to advising business leadership on local legal / regulatory requirements. Enroll the business in new policies and procedures through effective change leadership as appropriate.   

Recruitment and Employee Transitions  Assume ownership for recruitment efforts within the organization to include both hourly and salaried positions.  Ensure proper new hire paperwork is completed and provide positive onboarding/offboarding experiences for employees.

Labor Relations Partner with leadership to ensure effective partnership with the union and support in other labor relations needs; contract negotiation, staffing, etc.

Performance Management  Develop readiness and ensure management engagement and capability in creating performance programs and initiatives. 

Learning, Training and Leadership Development  Assist with key development initiatives and programs in partnership with business leadership to ensure that employees are appropriately trained and continually developing.  Evaluate training needs and establish schedules to meet needs.   

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree required with preference for advance degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years HR Business experience 
  • Experience in road construction or related industries a plus 
  • Proven track record of HR business partnering across the range of core HR disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to act decisively and deliver results
  • Ability to quickly build relationships of high trust and credibility with clients and colleagues to engage them in partnering on HR initiatives
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization required. Excellent presence and professionalism
  • Ability to creatively solve problems in an unstructured and ambiguous environment
