HR Business Process Intern

The Heritage Group is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Business Process Intern to support our HR Shared Services function as we continue to grow and evolve. HR Shared Services (HRSS) is driving to improve quality and efficiency across its teams, which are Payroll, Benefit Administration, HR Services, and HR Reporting. Business Process improvement and documentation is a critical step to meeting HRSS' goals in performance and customer service.

This role will work with leaders and analysts across HRSS to identify processes that need improvement, prioritize them, walk through and document the current state, and make recommendations for improvement. Processes that are identified for improvement will be dissected and documented in detail. Some current state processes may also be documented to build standard operating procedures.

The internship will be done primarily in our Indianapolis HR office, but upon management alignment, may also work from home occasionally.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with HRSS leaders and analysts to determine processes for improvement and/or documentation
  • Ask questions that illuminate priority
  • Build templates for processes and standard operating procedures. Socialize and get approved
  • Meet with and interview individuals within a particular process to fully understand the process, its steps, its stakeholders, and steps and processes up and downstream. Prepare and take notes
  • Draft and document processes after interview(s)
  • Work with process stakeholders to validate process and/or revise for accuracy. Work together to determine when the process documentation is accurate and complete
  • For selected processes, work with leaders and analysts to identify steps for improvement
  • Poke at proposed step changes to understand implications up and downstream
  • Work with leaders and analysts to discuss in advance of implementing a new process or process stapes how to define if the new process steps are working. Have a point of view
  • Partner with leaders and analysts to socialize and revise proposed process step changes

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Current Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in a related field (Business, HR, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; Word and Visio experience required
  • Extraordinary attention to detail
  • Excellent interviewing skills: listening, asking questions, and tying together pieces of information for comprehensive information gathering
  • Strong business writing skills; prior experience doing process mapping a plus
  • Ability to manage several projects at once
  • Effective organization and time management skills
