Sample Geologist Job Description

Geologist

The Geologist will work with Engineering, Quality Control, and Operations Management teams to support mine planning and stripping activities on existing and new sites. The Geologist will contribute through the integration of historical geologic data as well as planning future exploration efforts. The geologist will focus their field time on logging cores, evaluating sand and gravel deposits, and interpreting a variety of exploration data.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with internal and external exploration drillers to log cores or cuttings, and interpret geologic data collected in the field.
  • Manage core log and sampling program, ensure QA/QC tracking and data validation
  • Compile geologic information collected in the field to assist in mine and reserve planning
  • Complete data entry and data management of geologic data, may need to create or improve workflow
  • Field geological mapping, creating cross sections, and integrating a variety of geological data sets to create new maps and models.
  • Exploration drilling, sampling, sample processing and testing of collected field data. Coordinate with site management, to ensure sites are prepped for drill rig and have necessary supplies & support.
  • Competent mapping of ledges and delineation bed in highwalls of existing and new quarries.
  • Coordinate efforts with Quality Control on establishing ledge combinations and quality designations
  • Assist the engineering team on a variety of projects related to mine planning, plant improvements, or capital projects
  • Promote and prioritize safety of self and team. Ensure all safety regulations and US Agg safety policies are followed in work area

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology
  • Knowledge of aggregate mining operations and equipment (fixed and mobile) preferred
  • Technical knowledge of evaluating and estimating mineral reserves and utilization of CAD or other software necessary for compiling geologic data
  • The ability to partner with appropriate levels within the organization
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Strong understanding of quality control
  • Strong relationship skills and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Experience maintaining positive relationships and operating in a high level of integrity
  • High degree of both emotional and intellectual intelligence
  • Independent, confident thinker with a high comfort level with ambiguity

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to continuously stand or walk on level or uneven ground.
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairways and incline catwalks.
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch and/or kneel at waist or knees.
  • Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work outside and withstand extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
