The Company

Founded in 1930 in Indianapolis, IN, The Heritage Group (THG) is a fourth-generation family-owned business managing a diverse portfolio of more than 30 companies specializing in heavy construction and materials, environmental services, and specialty chemicals. With operations in North America, Europe, and Asia, and a client network that spans the globe, THG's focus is on innovation, quality, and service. In 2017 THG opened the Center, a state-of-the-art facility located in Indianapolis that serves as the company's hub for collaboration and innovation. Housed at the Center are the Heritage Research Group, the Strategy and M&A group, and the New Ventures group, including a dedicated HG Accelerator space.

For about 13 weeks in the fall, The Heritage Group Accelerator hosts 6-10 early-stage startups with a focus on hardtech, materials and other technologies that enable sectors in which THG operates. These companies generally focus on circular economy, energy, sustainable materials, water and waste management, and infrastructure. Running as an in-residence program, The Heritage Group Accelerator provides each startup with a small investment, access to more than $1M in lab support for product testing, and mentorship by a team of professionals primed to help them accelerate their growth. The Heritage Group Accelerator draws from our more than 30 operating companies as well as external partners to deliver robust support for our startups.

The Candidate

We are looking to add an enthusiastic, innovative, and dedicated General Manager for the HG Accelerator to set the strategy and execute the program. This role will extend across multiple facets, including recruitment and selection of companies, relationship management and connective support from The Heritage Group, and mentorship and guidance for founders in early company building.

The HG Accelerator team includes a full-time Program Manager and Coordinator to support the program needs throughout the year, with support from the New Ventures team. We seek an individual who has a balanced background in building relationships, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial execution to deliver the best possible experience for Founders and internal corporate mentors.

*We may consider remote work for part of the year for a top candidate. In-person work is required in Indianapolis during the 12-week program*

Responsibilities include:

• Sourcing and Selection
  • Connecting with early-stage companies in sectors of interest across the globe
  • Communicating the value of the program
  • Partnering with the program team to create a holistic strategy and delivery plan
  • Managing the investment and legal processes for onboarding companies
• Program Execution
  • Activating and supporting the growth of HG Accelerator companies through delivering a ~ 12-week program with the HG Accelerator team
  • Owning overall responsibility for the successful execution of the program
  • Executing events and developing content to build the profile of the HG Accelerator

• Relationship Management
  • Building and maintaining productive working relationships between Accelerator companies and The Heritage Group operating companies / mentors
  • Building and maintaining a network in the Midwest and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Tracking and maintaining relationships with former Accelerator companies

The successful candidate will have the following profile:

• At least 5 years of experience in an environment working directly with entrepreneurs in an accelerator, entrepreneurial support organization, investment firm, or related position; or a founder who has scaled a growth-stage company or business within an enterprise
• Familiarity with the venture investor community and venture investment process
• Existing, broad network of entrepreneurs, mentors, and ecosystem partners
• Experience working in the sustainability and/or industrial sectors strongly preferred
• Ability to develop, maintain, and cross-pollinate strong relationships with various stakeholders
• Represent the Accelerator nationally and in the local community
• Mentor and support other programs, work on strategic initiatives, and develop meaningful and beneficial relationships across the ecosystem
