Estimator Job Summary:
Generates cost estimates and new business opportunities in assigned markets
Essential Functions:
• Generates and develops cost estimates
o Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bids/quotes
o Computes various cost factors
o Prepares budgets for various disciplines of work
o Ensures all estimates meet or exceed company and customer's expectations, as well as regulatory requirements
• Develops beneficial business relationships
o Develops good working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and INDOT personnel
o Develops a network of contacts within the community
o Develops good relationships internally
• Performs day-to-day estimating tasks
o Sets up jobs in job costing
o Attends pre-bid and pre-construction meetings
o Generates purchase orders and subcontractor agreements
o Prepares change orders, submittals, and assists with other tasks as necessary to support the project team
o Tracks and reviews cost history and incorporates into operational buy in review meetings
• Communicates with internal/external customers.
o Answers inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.
o Provides highest levels of customer service.
o Makes presentations to large and small groups
o Translates technical information into easily understood language
• Promotes and maintains safe work environment.
o Exhibits safe work behaviors
o Wears all prescribed PPE

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Technology, Construction Management, related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Previous experience in cost estimating. Experience in civil estimating is preferred, but not required.
