Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical team of engineers and project managers which support operations team through utilizing their engineering knowledge and experience for process improvement, capital project management, inventory control, and mine planning. The engineering manager is responsible for evaluating and driving each team member within the department to effectively deliver assignments and projects to the expected budget and timeline.

Job Responsibilities:

Safety and Environmental:

  • This role will actively participate with the development and support of the health and safety culture through active participation and leadership in US Aggregates safety and environmental programs.
  • Work with Operations leaders and Safety team on identifying and integrating best practices into projects or overall plant improvements.

Job Performance Metrics:

  • Manage the drone program for mine planning, inventory, and site assessment
  • Conduct inventory surveys using drone and traditional surveying methods. Partner with Quality Control to perform annual physical inventory surveys and adjustments.
  • Manage surveying activities of various boundaries and limits for mine planning and property management
  • Manage the preparation of phased short, medium and long term mine plans for operations management
  • Plans, designs and surveys drill patterns in conjunction with vendors and operations management
  • Assist with continuous improvements in drill and blast designs while ensuring they comply with local regulations and company standards as they relate to Mine Safety
  • Partner with the Director of Land as needed to manage the planning and coordination of exploration projects for existing and greenfield quarries
  • Support the Company's ongoing operations and maintenance requirements
  • Recommend modifications or improvements to existing equipment to improve overall operating costs
  • Prepares and maintains suitable records of engineering activities
  • Maintains competency in in current technologies and methods of operations
  • Support capital plans for all operations (IM & quarry)
  • Develop budgets and work with sourcing to obtain best pricing for projects
  • Prepare justification for proposed capital projects
  • Execute and manage projects to completion, including designing, specifying, contractor selection, scheduling, field support, start-up assistance, and engineering and close-out documentation
  • Assist in long term sustainability and strategic projects in a support role and engineering capacity
  • Assists with compliance issues (Permitting, Reclamation, etc.)

Team Collaboration and Training:

  • Partner and collaborate with Area Managers and production teams on projects
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering and RIPPLE teams to assist in building out standardized equipment, stage and set nomenclature. Ensure accurate Aggflow's are maintained as changes are made.
  • Partner with HCM Master Blackbelt to facilitate project idea, execution, and tracking
  • Work with production and engineering teams in identifying, justifying, and executing on capital projects and major improvements associated with fixed and mobile equipment
  • Support the technical team to create individual development plans for career progression

Innovation:

  • Work with operations and sales to identify new processes and potential products
  • Partner with Vendors and to bring new products

Education and Other Skills:

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Mining, or Civil Engineering preferred
  • 10+ years experience in manufacturing or mining
  • Experience in CAD software such as AutoCAD, or others
  • Professional land surveyor license a plus
  • Detailed knowledge of crushing, screening, and related equipment
  • Experience in managing budgets and projects
  • Experience with Gantt charts and/or scheduling software (Microsoft Project, P3, etc.)
  • Experience with Aggflow or other process related software
  • Experience directing and leading teams
  • Must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication (both verbal and written) and problem resolution skills.
  • Must demonstrate consistent utilization of organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Outlook and Excel) and other software/system packages relevant to the position.
  • Must demonstrate relevant technical knowledge related to plant operations.
  • Must demonstrate proficient business knowledge related to financials and operational tracking.
  • Must demonstrate proficient knowledge of scheduling and production planning to meet customer needs.
  • Must have a valid Driver's license and a clear driving record.
  • Approximately 50% travel

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to continuously stand or walk on level or uneven ground.
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairways and incline catwalks.
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch and/or kneel at waist or knees.
  • Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work outside and withstand extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
