Director of Marketing and Communications

Job Summary

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for building and executing the brand and communication strategy for Heritage Construction and Materials. The Director of Marketing and Communications will interact with corporate functions and business unit communications teams to develop and maintain a consistent brand, generating awareness and engagement with all stakeholders, for relationship-building, recruiting, and investment purposes.

He or she will lead a team of talented MarComm individuals to partner with the HR and leadership to advance a purpose-driven organization and continually enhanced employee experience through communication. Additionally, they will drive strategies in partnership with our operating companies to support marketing needs of products and services that drive business value.

This MarComm leadership role reports to the Chief Talent Officer and has responsibility for all Heritage Construction + Materials branding and communications.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clearly articulate and promote the purpose, vision, mission and values of The Heritage Group and Heritage Construction + Materials across all stakeholder groups.
  • Manage the strategic and creative design of HC+M marketing and communications activities.
  • Ensure Heritage's desired image and position are consistent across all forms of materials and media, including adherence to brand standards and use of common language.
  • Conduct relevant market research and analytics to measure ROI, trends, and to make business recommendations.
  • Effectively understand the business operations to appropriately represent HC+M, our products, and our value proposition to make strategic marketing and communication decisions that support our business strategies.
  • Partner with business leaders to generate strong marketing campaigns that support our products and services.
  • Provide and clearly communicate strategy and priorities that enables business value and quality outcomes that support business priorities.
  • Develop and coach MarComm team to grow their skills and abilities overtime.
  • Interact effectively across a decentralized organization with many individual brands under the HC+M umbrella.

Qualifications & Desired Characteristics

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations with demonstrated success in enhanced brand awareness and employee engagement.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, and/or public relations preferred.
  • Experience in development and management of a company brand and marketing strategy.
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications, website management, and social media content creation and management.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Empathetic understanding of audiences.
  • Effective working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. Capable of influencing without authority.
  • Success working with external advertising/communications agencies.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Transparent, trusted team member.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly while managing numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Willing to reside in the Indianapolis, IN area.
