Director of Government Affairs

Job Summary:

The Director of Government and Community Affairs will interact with local, state, and federal legislative bodies, government agencies and community groups to represent and protect the organization's business plans and interests. This role will report to Megan Savage, Sr. Director of Government and Community Affairs, have a dotted line to Liz Larner at HC+M, and be dedicated to HC+M strategies and efforts.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Partner with HC+M leadership on strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business and industry.
  • Execute on the strategy for necessary government and community engagement as it relates to HC+M business area plans. For example, preparing for permitting and rezoning plans and addressing community complaints.
  • Research and monitor government activities that could affect the organization's business and customers.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
  • In consultation with THG Government Affairs, set the budget and manage the Citizens for Better Roads PAC.
  • Join trade associations and industry committees and seek leadership roles.
  • Collaborate with industry advocates to build areas of common interest.
  • Testify before government committees in support of the organization and/or industry.
  • Introduce legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Strong government contacts at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Public Relations, or related field required; MBA or law degree preferred.
