Job Summary

The Heritage Group (THG) is looking for a dynamic leader and storyteller to oversee and elevate our brand and communication strategy. The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead a creative team and interact with corporate functions and operating company marketing staffs to develop and maintain a consistent brand, generating awareness and engagement with all THG stakeholders. The ideal candidate will advance a purpose-driven organization, support our ESG focus and storytelling efforts, and continually enhance the employee experience. This role reports to the EVP, People + Culture (P+C), with responsibility for THG's brand and internal communications.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clearly articulate and promote the purpose, vision, mission, and values of The Heritage Group across stakeholder groups.
  • Coach, develop, and manage a team of creative designers, writers, and digital strategists.
  • Manage the strategic and creative design and content of marketing and communications activities and all corporate interactive platforms.
  • Ensure desired image and position are consistent across all forms of materials, media and use across THG and its operating companies, including adherence to brand standards and use of common language.
  • Oversee partnership with PR team to coordinate editorial content and messaging.
  • Conduct relevant market research and analytics to measure ROI, trends, and to make business recommendations.
  • Act as an internal consultant to THG companies to provide solutions to organizational marketing priorities as requested.
  • Lead and participate in special projects associated with culture and leadership development as a member of the P+C group and as a marketing and communications leader for THG.
  • Interact effectively across a decentralized organization with many individual brands and brand owners across THG to ensure connection to THG messaging, including appropriate use and wide communication of THG's purpose and values.
  • Partner with corporate functions to promote THG, increase company and community engagement, grow awareness and understanding of THG, and enhance recruitment efforts to include:
    • The Center director to promote programming at The Center
    • Strategy + Mergers and Acquisitions and HG Ventures investment platforms
    • Heritage Research Group activities and expertise.
    • Talent, HR Shared Services and IT Shared Services
    • Community giving and involvement
    • Event marketing, audience engagement, and communications support
    • Executive writing and speech support upon request

  • Empathetic understanding of audiences.
  • Effective working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of environmental sustainability and industrial organizations preferred
  • Capable of influencing without authority.
  • Success working with external advertising/communications agencies.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Transparent, trusted team member.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly while managing numerous projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in marketing or communications with demonstrated success in enhanced brand awareness and employee engagement.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or communications preferred.
  • Experience in development and management of a company brand and marketing & communications strategy.
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications, website management, and social media content creation and management, including agency and other consultant relationship and execution leadership.
  • Experience in leading and developing a diverse team of creative personalities
  • Willing to reside in the Indianapolis, IN area.
