Director, Corporate Business Partner

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for The Heritage Group (THG) is responsible for strategic development and day-to-day execution of talent and HR needs for over 200 people across the corporate and Heritage Research Group business units of The Heritage Group. This is a Director-level position and reports into the EVP, People + Culture.

The HRBP will support all corporate-based functions, such as finance, marketing, IT and HR shared services, corporate investment arms (Strategy + M&A team, New Ventures, and, as requested, new growth & venture companies), and the Heritage Research Group (HRG). This role develops, champions, and executes various organizational and people initiatives essential for continued value creation, including talent development, talent review, diversity and inclusion, and employee experience. The HRBP is responsible for the employee life cycle, including employee relations, administration, and talent acquisition, of over 200 employees across more than a half-dozen distinct areas of the organization that comprise the corporate backbone and holding company for the four operating divisions and, within them, over thirty operating companies of THG. These operating divisions have their own HR leaders, which are peers to this role.

The HRBP role includes individual execution as well as people management of a small team focused on talent acquisition, process, and data.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned people navigator and HR generalist who has demonstrated an ability to work effectively as an HR leader across various levels of organizational leadership, including executive management, and types of professionals, including developers and scientific researchers.

Your Impact & Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the EVP, People + Culture and other executive leadership as well as front-line managers to support the execution and implementation of critical people development and talent processes. Demonstrate business knowledge to effectively contribute to critical people decisions.
  • Lead employee relations and engagement for corporate functions.
  • Develop and execute talent support and growth strategies at the individual and team level.
  • Collaborate with other divisions and P+C to develop, influence, and, at times, lead cross-THG workforce planning efforts and drive efficiency and process improvement that enable a strong, devoted and highly productive workplace through enhanced recruiting, talent development, diversity and inclusion efforts, and performance management, among other facets of strong talent organizations.
  • Provide consultation and support on organization development and overall effectiveness to advance a purpose-driven culture through THG's values and demonstration of leadership, performance, and accountability.
  • Champion and develop diversity and inclusion efforts and embed the efforts in operations of talent development and acquisition for the corporate entity.
  • Lead learning, training, and leadership development efforts in collaboration with the THG L&D team for the corporate function through energetically engaging with key leaders and talent around development initiatives and programs for the right talent at the right time to ensure that employees are appropriately trained and continually developing to deepen the organization's bench strength.
  • Develop succession planning and organizational design guidance for the corporate entity.
  • Collaborate with THG Talent Acquisition Partner to support recruitment and onboarding efforts within the organization to include both hourly and leadership positions. Ensure effective onboarding of employees by supporting leaders in creating onboarding, immersion, and training plans for employees.
  • Lead employee relations and employee engagement. Serve as a company advocate and catalyst to develop and maintain a highly engaged and productive workforce, including building capability in individual contributors as well as front-line managers for leading employees. Advise front-line management on employment policies and procedures to enable improvement in working practices and productivity and without adverse impact on regulatory/legal compliance, company reputation or employee engagement. Execution of investigations, when necessary.
  • Advocate and drive in-the-business alignment to ensure business compliance with HR policies and programs. Advise business leadership on federal, state, and local legal/regulatory requirements. Enroll business in new practices and policies, as appropriate, through effective change leadership. Support employees with daily HR needs such as leaves of absence, benefits, and general HR questions.
  • Proactively consult, engage, and manage organizational change efforts within the corporate unit and in conjunction with other HR business partners in operating companies.
  • Assess and develop performance management readiness and ensure engagement and capability in performance programs and initiatives tied to company-wide strategic talent goals. Assist managers with employee performance coaching, discipline and goal setting needs.
  • Lead the talent review and succession planning process for corporate and HRG. functions.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and Compensation Director to ensure compensation programs drive the desired behaviors and results while maintaining internal equity and diversity equality.
  • Assess and develop performance management readiness and ensure engagement and capability in performance programs and initiatives tied to company-wide strategic talent goals. Assist managers with employee performance coaching, discipline and goal setting needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in infrastructure development, R&D groups, chemical industry or other industrial companies a plus
  • Prefer at least 8-10 years of HR Business experience
  • Experience with Peoplesoft and TimeClocks Plus preferred
  • Proven track record of HR business partnering across the range of core HR disciplines (Employee Relations /Labor Relations, Learning & Development, Compensation & Reward, Talent Management, Compliance, Change Management)
