Position: Data Team Manager

 

Job Summary:

The Data Team Manager will be a key player in helping The Heritage Group improve business performance in technology capabilities. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Technology the role will be responsible for daily management, performance tuning, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, database security, capacity assessment, and database architecture. The role must keep up with the demands of a growing organization and work effectively in a team environment, but also with self-direction. The ideal candidate will be an experienced SQL DBA that also wants to lead a team of DBA's and THG's data strategy.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for SQL Database development and support.
  • Leader of the THG Data Team that includes SQL (1) and Oracle (1) DBA's, Viewpoint Administrator, Great Plains Administrator and Business Intelligence (BI) Center of Excellence Manager.
  • Responsible for overall THG data strategy.
  • Provide input into overall development/implementation plan and document database builds and changes, perform SQL designs, table designs, and stored procedures work.
  • Ability to architect, design and configure large, complex databases with replication and high-availability on the most current MSSQL versions.
  • Translate logical to physical design, develops comprehensive DB architecture, implementation and upgrade plans and assists in definition of database standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead data requirements, architecture review, and modeling sessions. 
  • Primary contact for projects within the team, interfacing with project managers, application development staff and management.
  • Project based infrastructure and Execute database software installation (SQL Server 2008R2, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017 clusters), database creations/configurations and loads.
  • Maintenance and support of SQL server Mirroring, Log shipping, Clustering, and other methods of disaster recovery.
  • Responsible for data loading, security, capacity planning and backup and recovery.
  • SQL Server Reporting Services report development, maintenance and administration.
  • Database performance fine tuning and optimizing poorly performing queries, stored procedures, etc.
  • Day-to-day 24x7 production operations support (incident break/fix, change, service requests, and vulnerability management).
  • Production patch/upgrade management.
  • Application support and troubleshooting (applications that rely upon SQL database only; examples include TimeClockPlus, Great Plains, ViewPoint)
  • Customer support & communications.

 

 

Relevant Skills

  • Willingness to learn or knowledge of Oracle and Informix database administration. This role will serve as backups to other DBA teammates that are the SME's (subject matter experts) of these technologies. This role is the primary SQL database SME with 2 DBA teammates to serve as backup.

Requirements:

  • Has 5+ years of experience in database development and support in MS SQL Server environments.
  • Has 3+ years of experience in team management, ideally a team of DBA's or similar.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU,memory,I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
  • Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication. THG leverages Rubrik and Zerto for backup and DR solutions.
  • Expert experience in implementing operational automation.
  • Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server tools ( Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, SSRS, Idera, DMVs, system sprocs)
  • SQL Development ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design ( stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints )
  • Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components.
  • Documentation skills for processes and procedures (creating KBs, runbooks, topology, etc.)
  • SQL Database Operational support to tech users
  • Knowledge of Great Plans and SQL interaction and functionality.
