Construction Materials Technician
The Construction Materials Technician is responsible for working with a team to accurately and consistently test construction materials, in a timely manner, related to asphalt mixes. This involves the breakdown of pavement and quarry material, batching and producing specimens, testing specimens, analyzing data, and problem-solving. Qualified candidates should have a strong motivation to actively learn in a hands-on laboratory environment while maintaining high standards in quality of work.

Functions and Responsibilities:
- Observe safe work practices at all times
- Record and organize information from a variety of sources accurately
- Communicate effectively with all members of the mix design team, The Heritage Research Group, associated Heritage Construction Materials companies, D.O.T. personnel, and personnel from various agencies
- Use a variety of heavy duty saws and drills to effectively prepare samples
- Prepare and test specimens according to industry standards and specifications
- Evaluate and analyze test results and take corrective action when needed
- Collect samples from existing roads, quarries, and plant locations when needed
- Assist in general maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment
- Follow industry-standard preparation and testing protocol and quality control guidelines
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in a construction or science related field is preferred
- Interest or experience in materials testing or construction is a plus
- Quick learner with the ability to work independently and with a variety of team members
- Strong attention to detail with high standards of integrity
- Timely, positive and professional work habits
- Excellent organizational skills
- Time management skills and multi-tasking ability
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to respond proactively to anticipated needs or issues
- Ability to read, understand, and follow ASTM, AASHTO, D.O.T., county, etc. testing methods
Work Environment:
- This position may ask the following physical requirements: sitting or standing for long periods of time; lifting up to 50 pounds, bending to lift, crouching, kneeling, walking
- This position regularly asks the individual to work safely in environments with dust and noise using personal protective equipment
