Description:

We are seeking a chemist experienced in inorganic and organic synthesis, capable of working independently under the direction of senior personnel.  We are a multi-functional research group providing support to a variety of companies from a diverse set of industries.  We seek a candidate with a creative attitude capable of exploring novel chemistry while also displaying a level of practicality.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Plan, design, and execute experiments in the lab to accomplish R&D goals outlined by management
• Determine optimal synthetic pathways to produce new specialty chemical products, while considering commercial, economic, and technical constraints
• Lead scale-up efforts of multi-step syntheses from bench (grams) to pilot-scale (multiple kilograms per batch)
• Work collaboratively with a team of chemists, engineers, and lab technicians, to jointly solve problems and accomplish team objectives
• Provide troubleshooting and optimization support for active commercial processes, as needed
• Manage efforts to produce larger samples of select products for physical property characterizations, market validation, regulatory testing, and other needs
• Conduct research and participate in technical training programs, as necessary, to facilitate lab efforts and increase knowledge base
• Thoroughly document work performed in the lab, including updated notebooks, batch records, generating reports, etc., as required by management
• Effectively communicate lab progress to different audiences at various management levels, through emails, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings
• Always conduct experiments in a safe and responsible manner

Requirements:

• Bachelor + 4 years' experience, or Masters + 2 years' experience, or PhD + 0 years' experience
• Degree in Organic Chemistry or related discipline 
• Relevant professional experience includes work in the lab as a synthetic organic chemist, process chemist, or related profession
• Experience with reactor set-up and operation
• Experience with scale-up from laboratory to pilot
• Experience confidently handling hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes, in a safe and professional manner
• Must have strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Excellent record keeping
