Asst Director, Project Engineering

Position Summary

The Senior Principal Project Engineer for The Heritage Group (THG) will play a key part in supporting engineering projects in conjunction with R&D activity, as well as supporting projects at sister companies.  This position will report to the Sr Research Manager – Project Engineering.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Have a creative desire to work on projects/problems that have not been solved before.

  • Strong computer skills (Office, MS Project and AutoCAD).

  • Ability to work in a less structured, less hierarchical organization.
  • Practical and theoretical problem-solving ability.
  • Previous plant support/production engineering experience in a refinery, chemical plant, etc.
  • Flexible / adaptable to changing conditions.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and communicate with people of all levels.
  • Quick learning ability to evaluate new processes.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Primarily works on projects with a capital budget >$25MM.
  • Is a primary contact and helps to manage multiple client relationships for large customers that generate multiple projects.
  • Is viewed as a subject matter expert in an overall process area or on multiple process technologies.
  • Able to lead teams of other engineers and scientists in solving complex problems that may take up to 12 months to solve.
  • Design, procure, install & commission equipment for small projects <$5MM.
  • Develop the conceptual design and initial project scope (FEL 1) to secure funding for projects >$5MM and continue to be the customer's primary technical contact throughout the project delivery.
  • Project management - from capital request, to collecting bids, to awarding work, to managing contractors, to start up and training.
  • Ability to oversee external design firms and oversee construction management firms to meet budget and schedule.
  • Develop facility capital cost, raw material, utility, and operating costs and product sales pricing to prepare economic analysis of opportunity.
  • Be an engineering expert to support other Heritage Group company projects.
  • Process design including mass and energy balances, PFDs and P&ID development.
  • Develop facility capital cost, raw material, utility, and operating costs and product sales pricing to prepare economic analysis of opportunity.
  • Provide technical input on safety issues, developing, tracking and maintaining data used to improve facility operations, and financial performance, in addition to other duties as assigned.
  • Provide technical due diligence for mergers and acquisitions from startups to mature companies to join the Heritage portfolio.
  • Travel 0-25%, possible day trips up to week-long travel.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in engineering
  • 10-20 years of experience
