Associate Director of Analytical Research

We are hiring an experienced Associate Director of Analytical Research. The individual will report to the leader of the Heritage Research Group (HRG) and will be responsible for overseeing the analytical group operations, industrial hygiene oversight, and organic synthesis activities associated with providing R&D support for The Heritage Group (THG) operating companies and related industries. The Associate Director will lead the group to support HRG's vision of transforming partner challenges into lasting value through science – working on the right problems, in the right way, with the right partners.

This person will work closely with the Analytical, Heritage Construction & Materials, and Environmental teams to provide guidance and support to internal and external groups to ensure value added through problem solving and strategic planning.

We are seeking someone who demonstrates a willingness to take on new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments and who will take the initiative as problems or opportunities arise. The Associate Director will be action-oriented while respecting the existing culture.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize projects and focus on big wins
  • Lead development projects
  • Drive innovation that will have an impact on our businesses and customers by actively researching best-in-class technologies and developing an innovative road map
  • Lead a cross-functional team and manage all aspects of innovation, product development, analytical research
  • Supports R&D projects at the group level, participates in leadership meetings
  • Work with multi-functional project teams to design and execute appropriate analytical strategies
  • Oversee HSE and occupational hygiene functions related to THG companies
  • Manage analytical group finances and budgeting
  • Manage group activities including authoring/reviewing technical documents such as proposals, study designs, reports, publications, and patents
  • Assist with resolution of technical issues, and keep HRG's analytical instrumentation state of the art
  • Maintain up-to-date scientific knowledge through regular literature review and participation in conferences. Leverage external data and publications and relevant industry benchmarking information to drive experimental design, data analysis and functional/cross-functional strategy development
  • Represent analytical/organic synthesis/HSE functions in leadership meetings
  • Participate with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives
  • Make final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensure effective achievement of objectives
  • Manage the team with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, ethics, and discretion.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with all stakeholders

What is Required

  • Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline is desired, with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on research experience in an industrial research lab.
  • 20 years+ experience: A min of 10 years in R&D Managerial role with direct reports in an industrial research setting, and a minimum of 10 years in a research and R&D industrial setting is required

  • Demonstrated ability to lead R&D scientists and lead project teams to success, to influence technical strategies and to mentor and teach other scientists for growth & development
  • Experience evaluating R&D risks, hazard identification and experience developing excellence in diverse research settings
  • Understanding of business acumen
  • Ability and drive to solve practical problems
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation and organic synthesis
  • Working knowledge of R&D in an industry setting working with operating companies
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in peer reviewed scientific journals
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks to achieve established deadlines
  • Excellent multitasking skills and ability to adapt rapidly to changing business requirements in a dynamic corporate environment
  • Ability to travel up to 5% domestically and internationally
