Job Summary:

This developmental role has been created to support future business growth and succession planning at AMI. The candidate will participate in rotational experiences to gain accelerated learning and exposure to asphalt products, manufacturing, testing, marketing, sales and product application over a 2 3 year period. It is the expected result that the individual be a well-rounded leader within the organization at completion of the rotations. The length and structure of this developmental program may vary based on the individual, scheduling and needs of the business.


Rotation Structure:

Structure and duration of this rotational role may change due to business need, project timing and mentor availability. Rotations may be shortened/extended depending on individual skill, career aspirations and business need.

Program participants will meet together quarterly to participate in training, networking and other activities. It will be required that each participant lead and execute a broad-based project during their duration in the program. Participants will also be required to present the results of that project to senior leadership.


  • Heritage Research Group:  The goal of the Heritage Research Group rotation is to give the individual a background in product chemistry and design as well as knowledge around testing materials and new technological advancements. The Asphalt Development Program Trainee will gain experience and knowledge in many areas, some of which are listed below:
    • Safety procedures and processes when handling and being around construction/chemical materials and equipment
    • Asphalt binder and emulsion training
    • Asphalt product designs including: Pavement recycling, cold-mix and hot-mix designs
    • Testing procedures for all asphalt-related materials and products including aggregate
    • Exposure to new and upcoming technologies in the asphalt industry



  • AMI Plant: The goal of the AMI plant rotation is to give the individual hands-on experience in the manufacturing principles and processes of all asphalt products as well as material shipping and receiving procedures. During this rotation, it will be expected that the individual live and work at one of our asphalt manufacturing facilities. The facility will be determined by business need. The Asphalt Development Program Trainee will gain experience and knowledge in many areas, some of which are listed below:
    • Plant safety procedures
    • Mill operation procedures for emulsions and other product modifications
    • Sample collection and on-site testing of materials to ensure quality of product
    • Relevant state and local municipality product specifications
    • Inbound raw materials and outbound finished product logistics
    • Proper storage and handling of products and equipment
    • Training on inputting data and utilizing the sales, inventory and resources planning system (PCSI)
    • Basic equipment maintenance procedures and duties
    • Relationship between manufacturing and finished product characteristics



  • Sales and Marketing: The goal of the sales and marketing rotation is to allow the individual the opportunity to gain experience in aspects important to the bidding of projects and purchasing/sale of product. The Asphalt Development Program Trainee will gain experience and knowledge in many areas, some of which are listed below: 
    • Understanding of bidding strategy and process
    • Forecasting for position and production as well as project analysis
    • Training on the utilization of the sales, inventory and resources planning system (PCSI)
    • Opportunity to have industry association involvement and networking
    • Begin building strong customer and supplier relationships
    • Understanding of industry and company supply and logistics

  • Bachelor's degree required (Engineering, Construction, Business or related field)
  • Interest in construction, chemistry or related industry/field
  • 1-2 years of work experience preferred (related to construction and paving a plus)
  • Proven leadership and/or management experience
  • Willingness to travel and relocate Location could be in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois or Iowa and may change during the program duration
