Reporting to the Senior Payroll Tax Analyst, the Payroll Tax Specialist reconciles and processes tax deposit payments for all the weekly, bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls processed by the payroll team. This person is also responsible for conducting frequent audits and running reports to ensure our employees are correctly setup for payroll tax withholding based on work location and/or home resident location and reciprocity rules. He/she will ensure we are compliant for those taxes being withheld, remitted and reported.

Essential Job Functions

80% Tax Handling and Management

  • Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State and Local tax authorities as it relates to payroll withholding tax and remittance
  • Assist Senior Payroll Tax Analyst with IRS audits, and companies' mergers, and acquisitions
  • Assist Senior Payroll Tax Analyst in reconciling various tax related General Ledger Accounts
  • Audit month-end, quarter-end, and year-end employee tax withholdings and payments to ensure we are in balance at all times and make corrections, as needed
  • Assist Senior Payroll Tax Analyst with collecting and assisting with analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and reporting results
  • Entering/verifying employee tax forms changes for PeopleSoft and Viewpoint paid employees
  • Maintains confidentiality and the highest degree of integrity

20% Environment Enhancement

  • Assist PeopleSoft and Viewpoint Payroll Managers and HRIS in testing of any tax updates or tax configurations changes relating to either payroll systems
  • Reviews and manages the weekly tax audit process of work location changes and/or employee home address changes and reaching out to employee to provide updated tax forms, as necessary. This includes Remote workers and Relocation employees
  • Assist the Senior Payroll Tax Analyst is any special projects, tax issues, discrepancies, reconciling, etc. as needed.
  • Researches and analyzes employee tax issues that need to be corrected through payroll
  • Audit monthly tax data setup between work location, tax location code, EE tax distribution and EE tax setup utilizing various audit reports and queries
  • Reconcile Weekly, Bi-Weekly and Semi-Monthly tax deposits, payments, etc. from PeopleSoft payroll and Viewpoint payroll to Ceridian and upload tax files and deposits
  • Responsible for assisting in answering EE tax inquiries from the payroll mailbox for PeopleSoft & Viewpoint
  • Assist Viewpoint and PeopleSoft Payroll Managers in the year-end W-2 process and reconciliation

Requirements

4-6 years of relevant tax or accounting experience with large multinational and/or public companies

  • Multi-state payroll experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Tax, or Finance with an advanced degree preferred
  • Experience working with tax research software and/or 3rd party tax vendors
  • Work experience in payroll tax accounting as well as payroll processing
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft or other similar Human Capital Management system
  • FPC preferred but not required

Relevant Skills

  • Working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft office suite products
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and the highest degree of integrity
  • Must be able to work in a team environment

***This position is based in Indianapolis, IN, or can be remote within the United States with travel to Indianapolis on an occasional basis. ***
