The Continuous Improvement Leader will plan, lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives and ensure effective execution of key business and operational excellence strategies for 15 sites. This role will report into the Vice President of Operations and will function as a liaison between the sites and the Leadership Team.   The Continuous Improvement Leader will be a member of the operations team. Ability to work with all levels of the organization, build relationships to facilitate change, and develop an in-depth knowledge of process manufacturing is key to the role.

In your role as a Continuous Improvement Leader delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:

  • Partner with site leaders to establish, train and deploy a continuous improvement culture leveraging tools like 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools, methodologies and practices, including but not limited to root cause analysis, problem-solving, creating processes or value stream mapping.
  • Own Continuous Improvement (CI) assessment and initiatives. Partner with Site and organizational Leaders to facilitate strategy deployment.
  • Analyze production processes and associated performance documents to identify opportunities for Manufacturing Operating Expense and Loss Reduction.
  • Be a change agent: challenge organizational leaders to create a CI culture; remove organizational barriers to continuous improvement process.
  • Develop, implement and monitor site CI training initiatives.
  • Mentoring, coaching plant managers and members of the leadership team in lean concepts and principles as they apply to their functional areas.
  • Facilitating Kaizen, blitz, value stream mapping, problem-solving teams, and workshop CI events.
  • Share best practices between the different sites, facilitate the transition towards a learning organization and develop coordinated plans.
  • Initial assignment will be:
    • developing and implementing select elements of a maintenance management system
    • creating site-specific scorecards
    • Creating a "to be" production scheduling process by understanding the 15 existing "as is" processes
    • Establishing a cost reduction/avoidance tracking system and a process for collecting ideas that will feed the continuous improvement effort with good projects.

The goal is for the successful candidate to not only lead the continuous improvement process but to steer the organization to the projects that will have the most impact in the proper time frame

Requirements:

  • Prefer experience with bulk liquid processing equipment and processes.
  • Significant practical and technical knowledge of processing facilities, equipment, and plant processes.
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, theories, and practices for maintenance /manufacturing/production.
  • Experience in the process manufacturing industry preferred (Chemical, Refining, Paint production, bulk food production, Blending etc..) .
  • Must be able to develop and then implement innovative and effective management processes to maximize plant performance
  • Must be able to lead and communicate effectively with a remote workforce.
  • Must be able to work and manage multiple-sites and multiple projects at one time
  • Must be proficient at financial reporting and forecasting so we can quantify the value of the projects.
  • Must be willing and able to spend time in the field on location.
  • Frequent travel, with overnight and multiple night stays.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Must be able to develop a plan of action and then deal unexpected challenges without losing moment and site of the goal.
  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity, stress and change priorities and deal with urgent unplanned situations.
  • Must be able to influence from a distance.
  • Strong work ethics of integrity and honesty striving for excellence in all activities.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Black belt with multiple Black Belt Projects completed
  • Bachelor's Degree required (Master Degree preferred); Engineering or a related field in combination with lean or operational experience.

Experience:

  • 5+ years business / Continuous Improvement (Lean, 6 Sigma) / process operations experience, driving team excellence and leading people is required or functional areas.

Other:

  • Passion and commitment to CI with demonstrated success in leading and influencing both individuals and work teams.
  • Working knowledge-lean sigma methodologies desired.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely and concise manner. Must have strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be a change leader: the ability to adapt, assimilate, initiate, support and reinforce change among the teams.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with the ability to achieve results independently and through others.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a bias toward action.
