Job Summary:

Asphalt-Materials, Inc. is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join their Indianapolis based team. The role will play a key part in supporting and leading engineering projects, supporting plant activities and establishing and delivering engineering processes and standards. Project engineering duties will include developing and managing the scope, cost and timing estimates, equipment specification, design, construction packages, construction oversite, cost control, permits and startup leadership. The project engineer will report to the Director of Engineering.

Job Functions:

  • Provide technical support to plants and customers
  • Responsible for overall project management, including:
    • Creation and completion of projects with minimal internal resources available
    • Defining scope, justifications, capital request, cost and timing estimations
    • Collecting bids, awarding work and creating design and equipment specifications
    • Managing construction, contractors, project start-ups and training of employees for multiple projects simultaneously at different plants in different states
  • Create and improve the processes and systems used by the engineering department to develop and manage projects, plants and the business
  • Serve as an engineering resource and support other Heritage Group company projects as requested
  • Provide technical input on safety issues, developing, tracking and maintaining data used to improve facility operations, and financial performance
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Process design experience including mass and energy balances, PFDs and P&ID development
  • Ability to look at a process (either in engineering drawings or at the actual physical equipment) and develop an understanding
  • Ability to study a process and develop key metrics to measure, then develop improvement plans, track progress



  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project management of processing facilities (Refineries, Chemical plants, etc.)
  • BS Degree in Engineering required
  • Must possess experience in all phases of project management (i.e. scope, cost and timing estimation, design, equipment specification, construction, cost control, and start up)
  • Experience with air and water permitting requirement and familiar with RCRA regulations
  • Safety experience specifically with Process Hazard Reviews and Maintenance of Change Procedures (PSM)
  • Experience with a professional process driven engineering organization
  • Capable of identifying opportunities and creating good processes and systems for AMI
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • High degree of both emotional and intellectual intelligence
  • Independent, innovative, confident thinker possessing high comfort level with goal oriented tasks
  • Significant travel required
