The Environmental Coordinator's primary objective is to provide expertise and leadership to US Aggregates in the areas of air, waste, water, and local regulations. Partnering with the Environmental Health and Safety Professional, ensure the implementation and ongoing improvement of environmental policies within the business as well as compliance to relevant regulation.


  • Prepare and submit Air and Water Discharge Permit Applications, Stormwater Plans, SPCC Plans, permit compliance reports, USGS and DNR Water Withdrawal reports, RCRA waste materials management compliance reports, and other regulatory submittals.
  • Advise operations on regulatory requirements and provide technical support as needed.
  • Prepare plans, reports, and maps as needed to support regulatory and site/mine planning efforts
  • Keeps familiar and current with the status of assigned sites anticipating and resolving potential or actual compliance issues.
  • Deliver environmental training programs for operations, as required and ensure adequate records are maintained.
  • Ensure that storm water inspections, water sampling and other related field work are completed in assigned area.
  • Actively participate on various industry environment-related organizations to keep abreast of industry standards and developing issues.
  • Performs audits of facilities for compliance with regulations, company policies and corporate procedures and makes recommendations to Operations Management.
  • Participates in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), state environmental agencies, and local government inspections, Community Right-To-Know reporting, and conducts internal environmental compliance audits.
  • Partner with Engineering, Land, and Operations to assist in managing capital projects for site environmental upgrades, reclamation, etc.
  • Keep current with all Federal, State and Local environmental legal requirements and monitor developments and changes.
  • Participates in projects with cross-functional teams to address business opportunities, permit limitations, or challenges. Provides environmental expertise for new projects
  • Responds and provides oversight for the emergency response to sudden releases of OHM
  • Prepare and submit Compliance Reports and related back-up support documentation, and spill release and response reports.


  • Bachelors Degree required; preferred in environmental engineering or related science and technical discipline. Extensive mathematics used for calculating air emissions, water and pollutant discharges, and other reports.
  • 3-5 years work experience required; mining industry preferred. General knowledge of emission factors, wet laboratory testing methods, chemistry, and land surveying will be needed.
  • State of Indiana Class A-SO Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator license required or ability to obtain
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Strong problem solving skills, interpreting rules, laws, agreements, etc.
  • Demonstrate computer proficiency in MS Office- Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and in online reporting to the various agencies.
