About Strategy + M&A

As a key thought leader and resource for THG, the Strategy and M&A (S+M&A) team is charged with portfolio oversight, including strategy development and add-on acquisitions, as well as new platform investments. Our team continues to grow, and the Marketing Research & Strategy team member will be a key part of our S+M&A team.  This critical role will assume a diverse set of responsibilities including industry and market research, identification of new sectors for investment, business strategy, and financial analysis.  In addition to being a prolific writer who prides him or herself on thoughtful and eloquent communication, the ideal candidate possesses superior research skills, including the ability to distill large amounts of industry, market, and financial information into actionable takeaways.  These conclusions would be presented in a wide range of outputs such as presentations, written reports, and financial models, with an emphasis on displaying data graphically and translating complex findings into salient text.  This individual would be known as the go-to thought leader to help spur discussions around future trends as well as how our businesses must adapt to ever-changing markets.  The individual will have exposure to the entire deal process while interacting with employees across The Heritage Group, including both the CEO and the President of THG. 



Prepare written reports, presentations, pre-read materials, and board books for senior executives on a broad level of research and analysis on topics such as business strategy, markets, competitors, future trends, etc. Specifically: 

  • For New Investment Opportunities:
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret company and industry data to facilitate recommendations of new target industries.
    • Conduct research on the sector of target investments, including size, growth rates, key competitors, competitive dynamics, ability to differentiate, etc.
    • Provide financial modeling for new industry sector investment opportunities including review of key drivers, trends, and assumptions. 
  • For existing businesses:
    • Gather public and private market data on competitors and analyze their prices, sales, method of marketing and distribution, and maintain databases to allow for historical trend analysis.
    • Identify, track, and interpret key trends and statistics in support of our companies' efforts to win within an ever-changing marketplace.
    • Develop pre-read materials for meetings involving senior executives of top existing or prospective customers as well as potential add-on acquisitions, and recommendations regarding potential opportunities to collaborate.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external industry thought leaders, equity research analysts, trade and professional organizations that enables all the above.

Relevant Skills:

  • Strong research skills, including ability to distill large amounts of information into salient takeaways.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to mine and analyze data and subsequently translate information to business needs.
  • Resourcefulness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • MS Excel skills to perform foundational financial P&L analysis, building, and forecasting.
  • Desire to consistently contribute to projects and support new initiatives.
  • Courage to take initiative in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Willing to work irregular hours, at times, to meet project deliverables from senior and board member requests.


  • Bachelor's degree. An MBA is an added benefit but is not necessary.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience in market research, equities research, financial analyst, or similar industry consulting roles.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
