The newly created position, Safety and Health Professional for Asphalt Materials, Inc. will be responsible for leading the AMI safety program including development, launch and maturation of a Safety Management System.   The ideal candidate would understands safety processes and systems and can provide guidance and coaching to others to execute and implement.

 

 Essential Job Functions:

 Plant Safety

  • Maintains safety supplies, personal protective equipment and first-aid items.
  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Review all industrial accident, near-miss incident, and occupational injury investigations to determine if the root cause and corrective actions are sufficient and appropriate to eliminate reoccurrence.
  • Participate on the emergency response team and contribute to drills and exercises, and responding to an emergency event should one occur
  • Improve employee understanding of environmental risks and expectations for controlling those risks

 

Training and Coaching

  • Provide training, support, coaching and leadership to line management and employees so that they understand the safety and health programs and how to execute them
  • Coordinate training as required for new hires, existing employees, vendors and contractors as defined by the safety management system
  • Foster a collaborative environment with operations, contractors and other functions to meet common safety objectives
  • Proactively develop relationships with colleagues, suppliers, stakeholders and regulatory personnel
  • Supervise, mentor and guide colleagues, including updating and providing training

 

Risk Identification and Management

  • Identification and evaluation of risk hazards and development of measures for their control
  • Lead the development, implementation and management of EHS risk reduction/management strategies (safety and health, environmental, air, water, wetlands, waste, EPCRA programs, and emergency preparedness and response)

 

Regulatory Compliance and Community Relations

  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and maintain relationships with appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Remain technically current in loss prevention techniques, as well as legislative and regulatory requirements and safety and health consensus standards.
  • Ensure plant compliance with OSHA safety regulations
  • Represent the organization in safety and health interests outside of their operations within the community by active participation in professional societies and trade associations
  • Ensure contractor code compliance by managing and interacting between plant teams and contractors, when necessary

 

 Project Engineering Support

  • Identification and evaluation of risk hazards and development of measures for their control
  • Assists in the development of capital expenditure requests as they relate to health and safety
  • Support engineering and operations projects, including risk assessments front-end loading, compliance plan oversight and development of environmental permits and other documentations necessary

 

 

Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures and the communication skills to interact effectively with said agencies
  • Operational knowledge of computer software including, Microsoft office suite
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks without losing momentum while also completing all daily tasks efficiently and effectively

Requirements: 

  • Minimum BS Degree required. BS Degree in Industrial Safety or Industrial Hygiene preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years related experience in the safety capacity in an industrial environment preferably within process manufacturing, petrochemical or chemical manufacturing processes (preferred but not required)
  • Experience in the development of safety processes and training of individuals on the processes
  • Experience and knowledge of plant processes, equipment, TPM and Six Sigma a plus
  • Ability to travel 60%+ of the time
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including additional hours and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and in plant environment
  • Position requires a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background, physical and dug screen
